The first boy’s basketball game played by the Bret Harte Bears was against the Martin Luther King basketball team. The game was at the Sunset Gym and both of the 7th and 8th graders faced off in a epic battle of the court. MLK was ready and prepared to face off against the Bears, but no team can ever match the Bear’s greatness.

The 7th graders came close to being defeated, but then they turned around and won by seven points. The 8th graders fought hard and beat MLK by 8 points; it truly was a close game for both teams.

As a player on the 8th grade boy’s basketball team, I can say that the 7th graders hustled hard for their win and surprised me. For an amauteur team that really doesn’t have any prior experience, they worked together well and made sure to defend their turf.

There was a fair amount of fouls, points, and trash talk thrown towards both teams. It even got serious to where a parent of an MLK player got kicked out because he was being aggressive towards the referees due to his hurt son. Even during the first half of the 8th grade game, Bret Harte was down three points but they came through victorious.

It truly was a great game to start of the season and I hope that the Bret Harte Bears will have even more wins in the future.
